The concept of warm floors is not new. The Romans used it, and in the U.K. in 1960’s. We still remember those inefficient systems which were mostly electrical. They were uncontrolled and in poorly insulated buildings. Modern material technology (durable PEX pipe), better standards of insulation, fuel savings and higher demand on living space are making underfloor heating the preferred heating system for many people.
After all, this type of heating is copying mother nature. The structure (the floor in particular) is warmed, which in turn radiates the heat in the room. This what happens in the summer and in warm weather. Scientist have long understood the advantages of low temperature radiant heat from large surfaces. They also knew that water can provide high heat output at low temperature safely and efficiently. Now we have the durable material technology of PEX pipe to make these advantages an affordable reality.
